Other than their obedience to Nanoven, the nations of Mirei have been left on their own to develop as they please. Over the years, twelve nation-states emerged, most involving feudal systems of government. The treatment of women, class differences, and living conditions vary from society to society, and in general technology is just above medieval levels. Education is important and most states have free schools for all children.

A tax is collected in all parts of the world for the management of the shrines to Nanoven, and priests of Nanoven are not subject to national law--an advantage they have been known to take advantage of. No matter the wealth and power of a king, he must still kneel at Nanoven's altar and pay homage to the god.

The current conflict in Mirei has its roots in an event that happened ten years ago, from which this RPG takes its name. This is dealt with in the history section. The geography, calendar, and deities involved in Mirei have their own sections as well. Most of the culture and political systems of particular kingdoms will be left up to the players.

The "Sparks of Creation" are what give people, not to mention all other living things, the ability to live. At the beginning of time, the "Big Bang" was an explosion of creation, and its tiny shards became the soul of every living thing. The power of one spark is minimal, but when many are together, their power increases exponentially. Unfortunately, to remove a Spark of Creation results in the soullessness and eventual death of its original owner, but many of the Zodiac Chosen are willing to accept the loss in life in return for the power the sparks provide.
